Fern Buttress is a classic crag here at the New River Gorge. It features some great hard testpieces such as My Stinking Brain 5.13a, Welcome to Conditioning 5.12d , and Just Send It 5.13a as well as many "Don't Miss" moderates like Spiderwalk 5.10c, Triple Treat 5.10a, Springboard 5.10a, and Ritz Cracker 5.9. Some history and insights into some more obscure noteworthy climbs are provided also to tune you into the area more. 

It always helps to have a bit of beta on parking and access for climbing areas. Sometimes it's confusing and sketchy and you aren't sure if your car will be intact upon your return. So provided here is a parking and hiking walk through for Fern Buttress with a few extra 'nuggets of interest" thrown in. The trail you approach the crag on was "spiffed up" by the New River Alliance of Climbers" and that history and information is provided as well. 

The impressive routes at the beginning of Fern Buttress, Ron Kauk Gets a Perm 5.11c, My Stinking Brain 5.13a, Just Send It 5.13a, and The Brawn Wall 5.12a are highlighted here. The bold, hard trad climbs Portly Gentleman's crack 5.12c and Sun Viking 5.11d are not to be missed for those inclined to some brutality and fear.
