Queerclimbtastic
Queerclimbtastic hosts the world’s largest queer-friendly climbing convention annually in Fayetteville, West Virginia. Members run the gamut in terms of gender, age, race identification, interests–what they have in common is that they are experienced outdoor climbers with an adventurous, smart, friendly, laid back vibe. Bats of the New River Gorge
Do you love bats or want to learn more?
NPS Wildlife Biologist, Lindsay H, will be discussing the local bats that reside in the area, their impact, and how we can help them out with conservation efforts and reporting bat sightings. This is a great opportunity to learn about these often-misunderstood creatures and the important role they play in our ecosystem. Attendees will also receive tips on how to safely observe and document bats in their natural habitat.

Highball to Thurmond: 50 Mile, 55K, and 50 Mile Relay
The highball was used in early railroads to signal the track was clear. When the ball was hoisted, trains were cleared to proceed at full speed! We’re raising the ball on this unique 50 Mile, 50K, and 50 Mile Relay event, encouraging athletes to proceed on this epic destination, trail race, ultra marathon adventure. Participants run through New River Gorge National Park and finish in Thurmond, West Virginia.

New River Birding & Nature Festival
Since 2002, the annual New River Birding & Nature Festival takes place in and around the New River Gorge National Park & River in the heart of the upland, hardwood forests that Cornell Lab of Ornithology identified as a crucial stopover habitat for the continued survival of species such as Golden-winged, Blue-winged, and Swainson's Warbler, as well as the Scarlet Tanager
Falling Water 100k
This course consists of 4 x 25K (15.5 mile) loops on the amazing trails at ACE Adventure Resort & dropping into New River Gorge National Park. The route incorporates the two main creeks in the area, Rush Run & Arbuckle. Run next to a multitude of waterfalls, along the banks of the New River, and test your rock-hopping skills at the picturesque Arbuckle Creek crossing.

Ugly Sweater Fun Run/Walk
The Ugly Sweater Fun Run/Walk is a family friendly way to get active enjoying the Winter Wonderland light display at Fayette County Park.
This is not a race! You can go at your own pace and make as many running or walking laps around the light display as you like (5 laps equals a 5K distance). This is stroller friendly and ages 12 and under get in free. No pets allowed, except service animals.
This is a fundraiser for Active SWV and the Fayette County Park. The event is $10 per person (cash or check), but ages 12 and under are free. No reservations needed.
Wear your ugly sweaters and Deck your strollers (or sleighs)! Get in character and secret judges will be checking out all the outfits and strollers. Awards will be presented and the opportunity for photos.
Active SWV will be hosting a winter coat, hat, and glove drive for local families in need in partnership with Warm Hands, Warm Hearts in Oak Hill. A drop box will be provided at registration in the Dining Hall.
Gingerbread Festival
Nestled in the picturesque mountains of West Virginia you can step back in time and enjoy Fayetteville’s Gingerbread Festival! Fayetteville gets all dolled up for the holidays celebrating with true small-town flair. Escape the hustle and bustle of the holidays and enjoy a getaway with your family. You can shop small and enjoy strolling around historic downtown as the town is transformed into a candy land with gingerbread decor throughout town.
